2005 at KIRKBURN ST. MARY
Christmas 2005 at Kirkburn
Christmas 2005 at Kirkburn was very busy. As regular readers will know our Church forms part of a 6 Church benefice. Our Rector, John Tallant, who is at heart a traditionalist , had decided that the Benefice should have a united Christmas Carol service along the lines of the Service of 9 lessons and Carols made famous by the annually broadcast service from King’s College Cambridge The first of these services should have taken place in 2004 but was interrupted because of the road accident involving him and Gina, his wife. So it fell to Kirkburn church to host the first united service on really traditional lines on Tuesday, December 13th., and representatives from across the Benefice attended. There was a supper and conversation afterwards in the village hall.

KIRKBURN PARISH CAROL SERVICE December 18th
On Sunday, December 18th at 4 o’clock of the afternoon Kirkburn held its own carol service. Once again we decided to use a modern format. We were helped by Jean and David Illingworth, founders of ”THE BURN” (Kirkburn Acoustic Club) who arranged to have two items perfomed, including the ever popular “Mary’s Boy Child, Jesus Christ” and Jean also rounded up and taught a small choir of children who sang for us “Away in a Manger” to loud applause. The service ended with mulled wine and mince pies , which were much appreciated.
