CHURCH AT KIRKBURN
  A  NEW  YEAR
JANUARY 2010
In the Common Worship liturgy during the Eucharistic Prayer one of the acclamations is “Great is the mystery of faith” to which the reply is “Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will ome again”.  Those words sum up our faith most powerfully.

As Lent approaches a good preparation may be to consider our response to the mystery of Faith.  The Lenten observance is in itself a preparation to observe our Lord’s death and resurrection and rather than giving things up alone, though fasting is part of that preparation, to look deeper into the implications of his death and resurrection for ourselves and the world.
I don’t know about you but I have to confess that  there are times when because of “Busyness” Lent has caught me out and I have struggled.

Our faith tells us that God loved the world so much that he gave us His only Son (John 3:16). Through faith in Him we may, as St. John writes, have everlasting life.  In baptism we enter into his death and resurrection, and in the power of the Holy Spirit live and work as God’s children NOW!  There are, of course, many hurdles and, indeed, some barriers in our Christian life.  In our Church we can often be “Busy” with everyday issues of finance, buildings and organisation so much so that Lent, and indeed our spiritual life is overlooked.  God’s love for us enables us, indeed draws us, back to Him and liberates us for service.  As a part of the”A WAY AHEAD” course during this Lent a course entitled “It’s all about Love” is offered in order that we may be refreshed, let God lead and discover released potential.  We hope to share in this course on Wednesdays at lunchtime and also to meditate on the “Stations of the Cross” on Tuesdays, also at Lunchtime.  Further details in Woldsburn Weekly.

May God bless you and strengthen you in and by a “Holy Lent”
