CHURCH AT KIRKBURN
June 2010
This month’s Diocesan Mail contained the ordination  prayer list.   On Sunday 30th May the Archbishop is to ordain 15 ‘New’ Priests and on Sunday 27th June 15 ‘New’ deacons all of whom  need our prayers as they  begin a new phase in  their ministry. Of  course,  all christians have a ministry , not simply those who are ordained.   After our Lord’s resurrection and ascension his 12 disciples became ‘Apostles and  messengers of Jesus Christ and his risen life through the power of the Holy Spirit’.  As we pray ,  therefore,  for those to  be ordained  it is a good idea to pray about our own  ministry!  Are we open to the Holy Spirit.  His challenge, guiding and strengthening us?  Are we willing to go as messengers of the good news of   Jesus Christ ? The Apostles spread the good news by  words and action.  We are told in the Acts of the Apostles that they  baptised believers without delay, in other words without months of instruction, allowing the Holy  Spirit  to work in hearts and minds.  I believe the Holy Spirit is saying “get on with  it” to the Church today  He works without PCC meetings. Synods or Committees an d his will is for renewal and life............   Is he speaking to you about your faith and your ministry?  Christians are not simply a chosen few. There are many different ministries but one Lord and therefore all are called to minister.

As  I write this letter my heart is full of praise for   have just heard someone who shared ministry  with  me has been  ordained.  For  him it has been a long road,  and disappointment has often dogged him, but thanks be to the Holy Spirit, God’s holy will for him has been  done.  May the Holy Spirit continue to guide him and may he challenge, support and empower you in our Lord’s name and to his praise and glory.
