July promises to be a momentous month. The General Synod meets in York from 9th to 13th. Much of the proceedings will be taken up with debate regarding “Women in the Episcopate” in other words moving towards the Ordination of Women Bishops
Recommendations of the Revisions Committee will be debated at length before the measure moves forward. As you might imagine many letters both for and against the measure have been sent to the Archbishop of Canterbury and there is much anxiety around all the implications. Prayer is very much needed that the Holy Spirit may guide all the members at this most important session which
ultimately affects the future of the Church of England.
On 11th July the World Cup Finals take place in South Africa, so far there have colourful and noisy events as the nations’ teams have battled through the competition. Let us pray that, whoever wins through, new understandings
between nations and peoples may grow and develop.

Be continuing to junket on bonuses and speculation which in large part have contributed to the current situation. Let’s pray that the ‘cuts’ for once do not fall upon ordinary working people and families as they did in the 1930’s and 1980’s; above all let’s pray for for peace with justice for Gaza, Afghanistan and Africa, for an end to the ecological disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and for fulness of life for all God’s Creation which includes us.
Yes, in July there is a lot to ‘play for’ and to ‘pray for’.
Praying for our Lord’s blessing on you.
