SHIRLEY LEE’S POETRY PAGE
Why. Oh why doesn’t the NHS charge for meals that we digest
In hospitals across the land to pay for wards to be manned.
Those on benefit or on pension have it brought to their attention,
they have no choice, they have to pay, because they take their book away.
We have to eat at home or away, so why should the NHS have to pay.
Some folks who have a bob or two get their meals free, it just won’t do.
Two pounds a day from 500 bed would collect a thousand pounds, instead of food the money spent, on some vital instrument.
Gordon Brown should be told (and I would make to be so bold as to say)
the nation would not disagree about paying for their dinner and tea
There are singers and musicians from all walks of life,
with a smuttering of poetry that tells about life
A meeting of like souls may together enjoy
the talents God gave them, on an evening of joy.
I wonder if I’m able to make a contribution,
the standard is so high, though I may find the solution !
Taking part is the clue !. they just do their best,
so what shall I do when put to the test ?
I’d just like to say it was all such a pleasure,
at the end of the day, an evening to treasure
