CHURCH AT KIRKBURN
Palm Sunday ,  20th March 2005
2005 at KIRKBURN ST. MARY
As always Palm Sunday is a BIG  day at Kirkburn.   The service was taken by our own Lay Reader, Ramona Holt and began at the Lych Gate ( a most ancient part of our church).  Ramona met our special visitors, two miniature donkeys named Mischief and Rosie, brought to us by and through the courtesy of  our friends   at Cruckley Animal Farm.  They were really bonny animals, and everyone was most impressed.  Of course, they weren’t there just for the sake of being there.  They represented for us the events  on the first Palm Sunday, when Jesus travelled into Jerusalem to fulfil the ancient  prophesy “Fear not, daughter of Zion:  behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt”.  Whilst at the lych-gate Ramona distributed , as is our custom, Palm Crosses as a further reminder of that first Palm Sunday.  Afterwards Mischief and  Rosie  led us to the great South Door of the church and we began our service with that great song  “ SING HOSANNA” , beginning with that wonderful first line “Give me joy in my heart,  keep me praising”  the congregation singing its head off and the organ in full voice with a brilliant last verse accompaniment by Colin Mawby, who is a notable composer, particularly of church music,, and was master of the Music at Westminster Cathedral.    The only thing that went wrong was the organist’s camera.  He managed to get one snap and then the batteries of his “digi” ran out.
Modern methods ?? - it never happened with the old Brownie Box !!
