Those of you who have followed our 2004 diary will know that our first
plant sale, began as a kind of impromptu idea from Judy Adamson , our deputy churchwarden , raised over £400. For this second sale we decided a bit earlier (1) to hold it, and (2) to fix a date. Judy and Stan , the main growers, planned their activities and by the time the sale day was near, all greenhouses were crammed full. I grow tomatoes for my personal use at home, and in my two greenhouses there were over 250 pots of plants filling most of the available space, and I didn’t even manage to get my tomatoes planted into the borders till after the sale day. The tables at the sale were crammed full of plants of all kinds. In addition to the stock grown by Judy and Stan, David Adamson, a hosta specialist, provided many specimens. We were also delighted to receive gifts of plants from many villagers. In addition to the plants, we had a cake stall, refreshments and a raffle. The cake stall was crammed full of “goodies” provided by church members and villagers. The weather on the day of the sale was not as good as in 2004, but we did have a lot of visitors. Once again, one of the more important aspects of this sale, was the social side, and it was good to see people talking together. We are really grateful for all the support given to us by our villagers and many friends of St. Mary’s. At the end of the day the total raised was more than £575. This has made a real difference to church funds We thank everybody who helped to make this day a success, our growers, those who gave plants and cakes, all who helped in any way at all, and especially those who came and spent their money to help their church.
