Benefice Rogation service at North Dalton
In a country like England, blessed with a climate so suitable for growing many kinds of fruit and vegetables it is easy to take everything for granted.   But it is a fact that we cannot make any of the wonderful things that grow.   And the same applies to the fruits of the sea and to all the raw materials we use in production, as well as for the god-given abilities and talents we use  in producing and serving those gifts from God.  And so Rogation is the time to thank God and ask his blessing on fields and boats, but also to ask God’s blessing on those who work with the fruits of God’s goodness,  since we are dependent not only on God’s  gifts from land and sea but also on those gifts and abilities we need to properly produce and service his gifts.  And so on this Wednesday, the day before the  Ascension, we had a benefice service beginning at North Dalton church and continuing as we walked round Manor Farm.     It was a wonderful evening - the sun glinted on the rolling Wolds.   It was an evening on which it felt good to be alive, and yet, an evening when we felt and appreciated the union betwixt the earth and mankind  Jenny, the lady of Manor Farm, and her husband kindly invited us all to a  farmhouse summer.   Everyone enjoyed the food, and the sharing and the sociability echoed the present Kingdom of God as practiced by our Lord.
