St. Mary’s Church, Kirkburn, situated on the A614 between Howden (M62 Junction 37),and 2 miles from Driffield, the second most important Norman Church in the East Riding of York (Pevsner),will open its doors to show off its architectural treasures to residents and visitors free of charge on September 9th and 10th. Organised by the people of its 3 villages, Kirkburn, Southburn and Tibthorpe, the activities and openings are part of HERITAGE OPEN DAYS 2006, a national event co-ordinated by the Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage.
Kirkburn St. Mary’s was built in the mid-1100’s, and is part of the English Heritage. You can explore the Church and its grounds. See one of the sources of the River Hull which flows into the great estuary of the Humber.
